Keeping It Clean
Today’s word is modern. The twist is a drabble and a half.
“Grammy, I’m writing an essay about one day in the life of someone in 1924. Do you have any ideas?”
“Maybe a woman’s washday?”
“What was it like?”
“A fire was built under a kettle. Somebody had to fill the kettle and two tubs with water. While the water was heating, the woman made breakfast for the family and put on a big pot of red beans with sausage and ham for dinner that night. By the time breakfast was over and she cleaned the kitchen, the kettle water was hot. Then she washed the clothes, rinsed them in the tubs, and hung them to dry. First the white clothes, then the light colors, then sheets and towels, and last the dark colors.”
“She made the beans because she’d be too busy to cook?
“Yes, red beans and rice was the washday meal.”
“I’m glad I live in modern times!”
Robin MS, Anthea Jones, and Anna Soldenhoff wrote fabulous drabbles with limericks you don’t want to miss.
