Drabble Challenge 5/31 — Random Word is “Subject.” #152

“Hope the old thing was worth the gas money.” Her stepmother snarked.

Money, her favorite subject, Selene thought. “Dad said with a tune up she’ll be priceless,” Selene said watching the movers load the piano.

Later that evening, Selene went down to her basement to admire her new treasure. Running her fingers along worn ivory keys she pressed a lever beneath the middle C, revealing a secret compartment.

Etched into the wood, the name Louis Armstrong stared back. The family legend, her great grandfather Morgan “Mountain Man” Milton had played with Louis Armstrong.

Priceless? She thought. Had her father known?
