Emma and Jake’s friendship since childhood had always been effortless. They shared movie nights, inside jokes, and late-night laughs.

But when Emma left for graduate school abroad, they slowly grew apart.

Years later, Jake was out for a walk in their park. He saw her sitting on the bench they shared. She clutched the faded letter he’d sent her.

In it, he’d written: “If our friendship ever fades, know I loved you far beyond friendship.”

Teary-eyed, Emma, thinking she was alone, whispered, “I never stopped reading it.”

Leaning over her shoulder, Jake whispered, “I never stopped meaning it.”
