He knew Interstate Bookstore was about a mile from Sacred Heart.

And that it had Playboys on a shelf close to the door.

Last week, Sister Pauline announced that all eighth graders could leave the school playground during lunch the last week of class.

“I’ll do it when you take your Superman comic to the counter,” he said to Timmy.

Two staples held the centerfold. If he moved her up and down with his fingers, she would come loose.

And then he could fold her up.

Later, he and Timmy would look at her behind a tree in the park.
