Everyone knew Mr. Pigeon. He lived in the tiny yellow house at the end of the street with his springer spaniel and he greeted every day with a relentless good cheer that was like nothing I’d ever seen.
He’d spend every morning walking his dog around the neighborhood, greeting everyone he saw with his boisterous, deep laugh.
And Mrs. Peel from next door would shake her head and whisper, “If you only knew,” and refuse to say any more.
And some nights, when the moon was full, the crows would gather and stand sentinel.
And you just never asked questions.
