Drabbles are short — 100 words exactly. Each one is based on a single word to be featured in the story. Please read and linger a bit… at least 30 seconds or more. The story will count as “read” on Medium. Clapping, highlights, and comments are much appreciated! Enjoy and Thank you!

July comes with some tasty treats in the world of Drabbles in the wonderful Fiction Shorts publication. Today’s twist on the concept is that today’s drabble must not only include the above word, but also Western in style.

“Hey, Beau. Why don’t you keep that covered?

“Why hide it, Carson?”

“That’s a fierce scar, makes you look mean.”

“Every time I’m shavin’, it helps remind me of the time I trusted the wrong guy. Nearly ended badly, but seein’ this scar makes me cautious. Reminds me to be wary of who I trust.”

“S’pose that’s not a bad idea, never can be too sure out here.”

Beau quietly walked up behind Carson. He cocked his revolver, Carson looking round, shock etched on his face.

“Too true, old friend.”

The gunshot sent the crows wheeling into the night sky.
