RWDrabble 2.0.86 | Rehab
A Drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 100 words. No more. No less.
The word of the day is REHAB. Today’s drabble is a double.
She’d grown wary of the rain, like a raccoon gone rabid one time too many. A bad omen, perhaps. The inconvenience of it. All runaround and no victory, left — at best — home safe with wet socks.
Soggy. Frustrated.
Still, it was fitting of the mood of the day: freedom with too many variables. Independence weighed down by worry.
She’d checked herself into rehab, in the end. Tony was many things, but a standup guy he was not. Had driven her to the door, whinging the whole way about all the things he could have been doing instead, petulant over missing out on all the fun she’d had to promise — admittedly subterfuge — in order to get him to agree to delay the next hit for another hour, to stay sober enough to drive her across town.
Ninety days, and a pile of regrets to wade through, but she was ready to start over. Hopeful. Finally ready to rid herself of his weight.
