Today’s Daily Word: COLOR

image of a family on a golden spring day by Karen Hoffman

The Daily Drabble Journey continues — short stories of exactly 100 words. Please stay on this page for at least 30 seconds, so we know you’ve been here. Also, I love hearing from readers so please feel free to highlight, clap, comment — let me know what you think. Many of us on this journey enjoy engaging with readers and writers. I am one of them. Thank you.

Spring arrived. The children squealed — their unencumbered toes free to explore fresh grass. Denise and Jerry sat together, watching. It looked like a classic scene of a family enjoying their day. But the parents were experts at deception.

As winter passed in the rearview mirror, spring unfolded in rich color: purple and white irises bloomed, already quickly fading. Brown acorns were no longer falling, transformed into mini trees. Leaves were everywhere — hues of green, brown, and gold.

“Remember Frost,” Denise said to Jerry, sadly. Nothing gold can stay.
“I guess it’s time to tell them about our changes,” Jerry sighed.

LESSONS:
1. Nothing gold can stay: everything is impermanent.
2. Even picture-perfect days might have unshared secrets yearning to be revealed.
