A Drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 100 words. No more. No less.

The word of the day is DEBT. The twist is that today’s drabble is a drabble and a half.

She’d paid her debts. Several times over, as far as she was concerned.

Still, they kept coming back for more.

So needy. Unwilling to accept her boundary-setting nos. Impossibly demanding. Hungry for everything she didn’t have enough of at all hours of the day. Double of everything.

The gremlins.

Her hands had been rubbed raw weeks ago, but she had to keep up lest the piles overwhelm her last frayed nerve. The endless mundanity of it was mind-numbing. Day in and day out, with only a moment’s reprieve when somebody showed up, a welcome distraction for a few minutes before she was expected to hop back into the ring.

Which is how she found herself locked in the upstairs bathroom, cautious not to make a sound. They couldn’t follow her if they didn’t know where she had gone.
