When Lindsay placed the freshly baked lemon meringue pie on the windowsill to cool, she never expected the new neighbourhood thief to steal it. This action debunked any myth that delivering the welcoming dessert to newcomers was prudent; it was also unnecessary.
She spent hours picking the perfect lemons off the tree, borrowing her Aunt Ethel’s recipe, and baking them with care. Within an instant, all proof of their existence vanished without so much as a lingering crumb, leaving Lindsay speechless.
Her migraine blossomed later that day amid daily stressors and the low air pressure. The barking dog didn’t help, nor did the repetitive loop of America’s Greatest Hits of the 90s blasting while the neighbour took to the yard.
It was all she could take. Confrontation never came easily, but someone had to knock this woman down a notch…
