The random word is ‘surprise’ with a twist

A Drabble is a work of fiction, that is exactly 100 words — no more. No Less.

Today’s Twist: Include a poem using the random word ‘surprise’

If my story resonates with you, I’d love to hear your thoughts and relish your applause. I’d love to know you were here ☘️ Go raibh míle maith agat!

For the great folk of Ireland,
Men whom God made mad,
Though we might act merry,
Our thoughts in sorrow clad.

In our hearts resides despair,
Untouched by fortune’s kiss,
Not the harshness of the air,
But truths that go amiss.

Why birth us into fleeting light?
To cruelly confine our span?
This query seeks not wealth, respite,
But the common fate of man.

No salve heals such wounds profound,
Not gold, nor love’s embrace,
Nor fame that briefly comes around;
Only song can grant solace.

So in this gloom, ‘tis no surprise,
In drink and verse, our spirits rise.
