Opening Night
A Broadway debut
Today’s random word is elaborate.
Drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 100 words. No more, no less.
It was opening night.
Three hours before call time, Nora arrived at the theater and stepped onto the stage. She admired the elaborate set design then turned around to soak in nearly a thousand empty seats.
Nora, a young theater arts graduate, beat out hundreds of auditionees for a starring role in a new Broadway musical. She was accustomed to leading roles in student theater, but never in her wildest dreams did she imagine landing the lead in her professional debut.
The stage manager called Nora from the wings.
“Surreal, huh?”
“Just indescribable.”
“You’ll absolutely smash it. Break a leg.”
