New York City under a dome — Created using Bing AI image creation tool.

A drabble is a work of fiction, a full story in exactly 100 words, no more, no less. I hope you enjoy it. Please scroll and read for at least 30 seconds. Claps, highlights, and comments are optional but very appreciated.

We had established a domed colony on a distant planet. Now that lightspeed travel is routine, it is a day trip. Sometimes, faster than going from New York to Japan.

Earth’s cities were also encased in bubbles — a technology discovered before the great flood. Life on Earth was now akin to living in Atlantis. Our domed cities, the ones that survived, exist under the sea.

Now, we drink desalinated water and ship our waste to the Moon.

It’s likely the colony wouldn’t exist if we’d known then what we know now. But hey, at least we saved our planet, right?

For this drabble, the random word to build the story around is “established.”
