I’ve begun wondering why people avoid me whenever I come into sight. I used to think it was how I looked, but the mirror told me it wasn’t my looks that were the issue. Then, visiting the doctor recently about an old problem, how he used two sets of rubber gloves when examining me reminded me of the little situation I’d had last year. I’ll share this in confidence.
I once had a contagious disease,
As well as an outbreak of fleas.
It wasn’t too nice,
When I caught me some lice,
And now I’ve been stung by some bees.
A particular story from Pooja Vishwanathan that connects with my mother’s accounts about wartime London when she and my grandmother lived through the blitz.
