Today was the best day!
My day started with clouds and drizzle. Mom reminded me, “Put on your yellow slicker.” But I didn’t mind — I had plans. My friends and I would meet at the theater, even though I had no money. I knew one of them would pop for my ticket.
I kicked rocks and jumped in a puddle on the way. That’s when I saw it — a soggy twenty-dollar bill! Wet and wrinkled but real. I ran all the way to the theater and spent ten minutes at the hand dryer in the restroom.
“I got it. My treat guys,” I announced. “WTF, Red. Did you rob your mother’s purse, or something? Oh wait, she doesn’t have any money.” We got popcorn, too — the cheesy kind that left your fingers orange.
We watched Return of the Jedi. We cheered loudest when Darth Vader threw Emperor Palpatine down the shaft to his death.
