The word of the day is BURGER. Today’s drabble is a double drabble. The twist is mysterious scribbles that appear on a wall.
She’d been vigilant, but it hadn’t been enough.
Damn teenagers, with their devil-may-care attitude and know-it-all airs.
They’d come in droves, as they do, scraping chairs and upsetting the salt shakers she’d spent two hours arranging. Thoughtless whirlwinds, a trail of destruction strewn in their wake.
The diner was older than all of them combined, its luster in constant threat of disrepair, but she took care to polish away the inevitable signs of age.
It must have happened when she’d let down her guard. Distracted by the sizzle of burgers on the grill, she’d been content to lose herself in the rhythm of familiarity, had forgotten to keep a watchful eye on the late-night gaggle overflowing from the booths.
But blood stains everything, even red vinyl.
