RANDOM WORD DRABBLE | FICTION SHORTS
Searching for the Truth
wherever it may be hiding
Today’s Daily Word: INCHES
The Daily Drabble Journey continues — short stories of exactly 100 words. Please stay on this page for at least 30 seconds, so we know you’ve been here. Also, I love hearing from readers so please feel free to highlight, clap, comment — let me know what you think. Many of us on this journey enjoy engaging with readers and writers. I am one of them. Thank you!
Melvin wonders if he’ll discover the truth. He knew Hank’s version of what happened; he heard what Claudia saw; he read Sammy’s viewpoint. Three people — their stories were all so different.
In his long career as a detective, Melvin hadn’t experienced discrepancy like this in a case.
Just then, a child, who had been hiding under the table, comes forward. “I know what really happened,” she timidly whispers.
Excited as he inches toward the truth, Melvin reaches for the child and suddenly realizes she’s bleeding profusely. “Can you tell your story?” Melvin asks. She tries, but it’s already too late.
LESSONS:
1. Pause. Look. Listen. Be observant.
2. Sometimes the answer you’re looking for is hiding under the table (or right beneath your nose).
