When Jeremy asked to borrow his dad’s 1972 Buick Skylark coupe, he hadn’t planned on picking up Mary, but sometimes, blessings happen. Jeremy had pined for the buxom brunette’s attention forever, but understood that senior students didn’t give juniors a second glance. At least, not until they drove at high speed in their father’s brand-new car.

After offering Mary a lift home, she asked to cruise the area. With sagging shoulders and tear-stained eyes, he noted that clearly someone had hurt her. They drove around town for hours without conversation before she urged him toward the beach.

Jeremy silently nodded.
