Too busy surviving

Today’s random word is unit; the first sentence “There was no ice cream in the freezer”

“There was no ice cream in the freezer,” Mom told Marcus.

Sheila looked over what I wrote and laughed hard and bitter!

“Something funny?” I asked her.

“Have you ever been poor?… What freezer? What ice cream? In our world, we think of what to eat! Ice cream is like… I don’t know! Not on the list!”

“You know what other thing we think of? Not being bullied by an absolute unit who’s hungry and lives next door.”

I stopped writing.

“Would you want to share your story?”

Hon… we, the poor, have no story! We’re busy fighting reality!”

The word ‘unit’ here means someone big and very strong ( British slang).

Thank you, Nancy Oglesby, for a great inspiration.
