She knew the flowers were fake. What she didn’t realize was that the point she wanted to raise with her editor about corporate greed was about to bloom into something far more twisted.

“Okay so…. Paper Roses, ” Brassman began, “I love this title.”

“The article isn’t about roses. They’re just a metaphor for how corporations are manufacturing illusions. I’m focusing on worker exploitation and environmental degradation… ”

Exactly! Paper roses represent how you don’t need the truth anymore. You just need something that looks real enough. People are happier with fakes these days!”
