another perspective about roots and wings
Today’s Daily Word: LAID
The Daily Drabble Journey continues — short stories of exactly 100 words. Please stay on this page for at least 30 seconds, so we know you’ve been here. Also, I love hearing from readers so please feel free to highlight, clap, comment — let me know what you think. Many of us on this journey enjoy engaging with readers and writers. I am one of them. Thank you!
Landon returned a week ago, comfortably settled back home.
That’s why he was shocked when he overheard Dad saying to Mom: “The foundation has been laid; he has the roots — now just give him the wings so he can take flight.” Landon bursted into their room — in tears and furious defiance.
“I just returned after being gone for 18 months! I thought you wanted me home!” he yelled at his parents. “Why treat me one way, but talk behind my back about roots and wings — preparing to push me out?”
Then he saw the potted fern and swallowed his embarrassment.
LESSONS:
1. Don’t assume.
2. Learn the facts and context before overreacting.
3. Actions really do speak louder than words.
