Today’s double drabble challenge word is “brew.”

Today’s double drabble twist is to start with the first line, “Do you believe in miracles?”

A double drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 200 words. No more. No less.

If you enjoyed this, let me know!

“Do you believe in miracles?” I ask my daughter.

“No… Yeah… Dunno,” is her sullen reply, her face pale and expressionless.

She thinks I’m going to say, “Because with grades like these, you’ll need a miracle to get into a decent university.”

And it’s true. I want to rant at her about the parent-teacher interview feedback I just sat through. But I hold my tongue, brew a pot of tea, and choose a different approach.

“What’s your dream career?” I ask.

It’s a big question to ask a 15-year-old who can’t even decide what to wear most days.

“Vet?” I suggest.

The tiniest headshake suggests she’s left that dream behind.

“Lawyer?”

She grimaces.

“Journalist?”

I get an eyeroll.
