The Lens We Use May Not Be Right
Even if they are seemingly historical
Today’s random word is startle, and the genre is historical fiction.
“Do you go by Pamela?”
“Well… I’d prefer Ms. Travers.”
“What does Mary Poppins mean to you?
“It seems that you created this magical creature… too good to be true, don’t you think?”
P.L. Travers startled, laughed, and said…
“This is the problem with adults. They think children should be grateful because they’re being taken care of while taking care of them is our responsibility. Therefore, we need to do it thoughtfully. By the way, magic is everywhere, and it is free. Even for adults.”
That was her first interview. She learned tremendously… as a reporter, mother, and… a person.
When we see children as ‘humans,’ we must ask, “Had someone done or said it to me, would I like or understand it?”
I greatly treasure Mary Poppins and the story about Pamela Lyndon Travers and her relationship with Walt Disney. Hence, this drabble.
A little bit about P.L. Travers…
