Emma powers on her Dell. She opens a Word document and stares at her flashing cursor. She’s made up her mind, so why is it so hard for her to start typing the most important letter she’ll ever write? The cursor pulses in time with the beat of her heart and the rhythmic chant drumming in her head: Write it. Write it. Write it.

She watches a bead of condensation roll down her glass of ice water. Her eyes drift back to the cursor blinking on the blank page. She rolls her shoulders, nods once, cracks her knuckles, and begins.
