Fairy tales, it turns out, have it wrong.

It is not apples that cause the problems, but pears.

“Here, young woman, try this juicy pear,” rasped the witch.

Aliane, Princess of Desania, did not wish to be rude. One might even think she was Canadian or British. She was royalty, after all. Offending her subjects could lead to complications. It had been drummed into her since she was a child.

She accepted the pear and took a large bite.

Crunch!

As Aliane collapsed, the witch voiced a spell, transporting Aliane back to her lair. Now, to wait for a Prince.
