She saw the shadow of an axe… Why was this story so hard to write?

Sally hoped she wouldn’t telegraph the ending, but someone might lose their head tonight.

The room’s dim light flickered as she stepped forward, heart pounding. Just then, a hand grabbed her shoulder.

She spun around, facing the reflection in a cracked mirror. Her eyes, filled with terror, momentarily staring back. She turned to see her brother Jack, smiling eerily, holding the axe.

“I told you to stop writing those scary stories — Now, you’ll live one.”

She gasped as his image faded, and the axe fell.
