The Story of a Girl Who’s Trying to Be Somebody
Through her breath — Drabble#301
Today’s random word is breath; double drabble
I’m the oldest. A girl. Twenty-one. I studied literature.
I’m moving out of my house. My dad nodded to the idea. My mom threw a bowl of soup in the air… she couldn’t stand the thought.
I’m not just moving out of the house. I’m going abroad…
The airplane has landed—a foreign land.
My best friend moved down here three years ago, and she needed a roommate.
I’m looking forward to stepping out of the plane and inhaling my first breath toward independence… adulthood.
With three pieces of luggage, one carry-on, and my dearest teddy, I am hugging my best friend tightly… commencing my journey.
Looking for a part-time job… searching for the sign “Hiring” in foreign characters. Ramen shop! Going in and telling the owner I need to sustain the breath of breaking away from my mother’s belief in who I’m supposed to be.
Receiving a customer with grace… a grouchy male who says, “I need a waitress without a foreign accent.” Admiring a soul behind me who answers, “You should apologize or leave.”
