Isobel finds a hidden receipt in John’s coat pocket. It’s so crumpled that when she unfolds it, only the date of his last ‘business trip’ remains unsmudged. It’s enough, however, to raise her suspicions.

A few days later, she finds an empty silver wrapper tucked into the console in his car. Isobel stares at it for a long time. The tendrils of betrayal settle around her.

Sorting clothes on laundry day, Isobel notices a stain on John’s shirt. He was wearing it on Friday, the day he came home late from ‘work drinks’.

She lifts his shirt to her face and sniffs. It has that distinct smell.

Isobel’s pushing marinated vegetables onto bamboo sticks ready to grill for dinner when he enters the kitchen. John senses she’d prefer to skewer him instead.
