There Is a Knock… Open It!
Drabble # 308
Today’s word is debt; one and a half drabble
“You should be grateful I didn’t divorce your father. Otherwise, you’ll be seen as sinful.. unsuitable for marriage!”
She listened to her mother repeatedly telling her this since she was eight. She chooses her invisibility. She believes her presence isn’t wanted.
Since she was eight, she looked around and asked everybody if she owed them anything. Many elderlies shook their heads, expressing their despair. Many youths raised their eyebrows, expressing their bewilderment.
That yellow house… an old lady has lived there for many years.
Rumor has it that she’s too afraid to leave the house because she can’t pay her debts.
She doesn’t have family… her front door seldom opens.
A youth of eighteen knocks…
“Please leave! I can’t pay you!”
“I’m not here to collect. Twelve years ago, you shared half a bun with me. Since then, I haven’t been afraid.”
The door opens….
Perhaps… so does a heart?
