A drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 100 words. No more. No less.

Today is Twisted September Drabble Challenge #270. The random drabble word is fantastic, and you must also base your story on the image below.

“What a fantastic day to be alive!” Joshua exclaimed, making himself comfortable on an ice-covered bench. I stood at the pier’s edge.

“Yeah, wonderful,” I grumbled. Cold weather wasn’t my thing.

“I’ve always wondered what the ocean looks like during winter,” Joshua explained, mesmerized by the half-frozen water.

“Ugly and quiet,” I replied. I missed the squawking seagulls and crashing waves of the summer.

Summer was warm and inviting. Winter was one big safety hazard.

“Ready to go inside?” Joshua asked, sliding down the wooden pier toward me. I nodded, sighing as he fell into the frigid ocean.

Shoutout to Nancy Oglesby and Fiction Shorts for this fun daily challenge!
