Today’s double drabble challenge word is “candelabra”.

Today’s double drabble challenge twist is the protagonist’s name is Siobhan.

A double drabble is a work of fiction that is exactly 200 words. No more. No less.

If you enjoyed this, let me know!

Siobhan picks up the ornament that sits in the shadows of the living room’s giant flatscreen TV.

This figurine of a ballet dancer isn’t meant to be green.

No, this reminder of a future not followed is meant to be shiny and bronze.

But this representation of sacrifice and love still extends limbs so ornately that little tea candles can be held in the outstretched hands and balanced on the taut abdomen.

It’s a taut abdomen that Siobhan no longer has, not since she replaced it with crepey deflated skin.

No one in the family except for Siobhan has noticed its changing colour. No one else has noticed that every memento and photo frame of Siobhan’s achievements wears dust like a second skin.

Siobhan picks up the green, meant-to-be-bronze, candelabra and takes it to the master bedroom. She pulls a little suitcase out from under her side of the bed.
