When He Calls Her Baby

Under the dim light of the stars, he calls her “baby.” He’s always calling her baby when he wants something. She hates that it works.
“C’mon, baby,” he coos. “We’ll do it together.”
She looks out at the long expanse of nothing just before them. Just pure, inky black. Her heart pounds and her mouth goes dry.
He slides his arm along her back. The sense of it makes her shiver.
“What happens when we reach the bottom?” she asks.
He gives her that smile of his. “Aww, baby, where we’re going, there is no bottom.”
And silently she nods.
