When I awoke from the dream I was disoriented. It was filled with life-like haphazard images.

Zander chased me on the flat rooftop, shouting, “I will get you, Mikey, you can’t escape. You are too slow, you wooze. You’re dead!”

I could feel his bony knuckles tearing my cheek skin. Was it a dream? It felt so real.

I kicked. You reeled backward. I couldn’t hold you, Zander. My hands were slippery from sweat and fear.

I still hear the thud as your head cracks the pavement.

Why are you haunting me night after night in my dreams, Zander?

Author’s note:

You can’t control everything in life. Accidents happen. A guilty conscious is powerful. It will haunt and destroy you if you let it be.
