Why Should I Be Grateful?

Jane looks at the pale-grey face of the young woman in the mirror holding a decaying orchid.
“Oh, no, I can’t handle this,” Jane sighs, tears running down her cheeks.
She suffered from depression and stayed in bed for months, hardly eating. A serial killer called ‘The Monster’ wiped out her family and friends.
With a creaking voice, she asks the reflection in the mirror, “What do I have to be grateful for?”
“Lots,” the woman’s reflection replies.
“Are you sure, Mary?”
“Yes, Jane, I’m sure. The Monster didn’t kill you,” her best friend Mary answers from the mirror.
Sometimes, life doesn’t go as planned, and we face curveballs and life’s storms. But, it’s great to say:
I breathe, feel the wind and sun in my face. I’m grateful for being alive — Jason Edmunds (2025).
