RWDouble Drabble 2.0.128 Mirage with a twist

Today’s word is mirage. The twist is that the first line of the story must be “rain whispers secrets to the earth.”

Double Drabbles are short — only 200 words. Please go to the bottom of the page & stay on it for 30 seconds or more so the stories are counted as read. Please read, highlight, clap, and comment — let us know you’ve been here! Thank you! 😁

Rain whispers secrets to the earth,” she said out loud to her cat.

He didn’t reply.

She sat down to write a drabble, a 200-word short story that helped spark her writing juices. It was good to get back to writing as she’d had a dry spell the last few weeks.

The rain outside was more than whispering, it was pounding. The forecast said there would be rain, but this was more like a monsoon. As the rain started to drive sideways, the wind picked up, and something made a horribly loud sound, like a freight train.

The cat jumped off her desk and ran under the sofa.

“What the hell?” she said to no one. The cat couldn’t hear her now.

She looked outside and saw a dark shape coming towards her.

It was a tornado.
