People have always noted that I’m the master of disguise. One day, I’m the office clown; the next, I’m the business rat, but lucky for me, whichever part I play, I’m respected.

So, when my thirty-fifth birthday came around, it didn’t surprise me that my colleagues turned our workplace into an escape room. It was the only way to contain me for what they had in store — the opportunity to prank a prankster.

In this game of chance, the key was the blindfold, the darkness, and the hired facilitator who moved the furniture around, so nothing felt the same. All the guests scrambled like mice in a maze, feeling their way from office to office in search of the coveted prize.

I heard banter from colleagues, egging me on with every cautious move, as if their freedom relied on my leadership. As each door opened, another one closed, until I realized…
