For ages, the primary means of knowledge transfer in the world has been books. Books are meant to widen our horizons and expand our intellectual capacity. As books evolved, they also became a source of entertainment, taking us to the world that we never saw before. Different writers have different styles. Reading different writers gives us the chance the view the world and its issues from a drastically different perspective, thus making us a better person.
In the ages where printing was not invented, books had limited number of copies and were stored in a library so that everyone could access them. After the printing technology was developed, books became more widespread, with everyone having a copy of their favourite book. But the major problem in the hinterland of the countries is that they do not have access to stores providing quality literature. And it is from this problem that the solution of book box subscription arose.
The concept of book box subscriptions is slowly catching its pace. While it is commonplace in many countries, most India-based book boxes have their inspiration roots abroad. Book boxes basically deliver you some surprise books with book-related goodies and accessories, as per your subscription plan.
So as any other avid reader, excited about book box, a few months ago, we ordered a book box from one of its pioneers in India. But we were certainly let down. Not only were the goodies — green tea bags, candles, bookmarks — completely overrated, but the book in itself was a huge disappointment. For the price of 1k, it was certainly a loss. Imagine! We could have ordered 2–3 books online in the same price along with complimentary bookmarks!
Books are a gateway to alternate reality for readers. Every reader expects different things from books, but one thing is common — they want it to be money well spent! And that got us thinking. Most readers don’t particularly care for goodies. Most readers have a hidden artist in them, so they create their own personalized, hand made bookmarks and art related to books. Hell, they also get their favourite quotes printed on mugs from customized gift shops! What most readers fail to find is a book with substance. While most of us love the surprise book thing, many of us don’t like the surprise genre thing- for e.g. their are people who love poetry but hate prose. There are people who cannot stand certain genres. And the possibility of getting their most hated genre in box drives them away. And let’s face it- we Indians like Nescafe, Bru coffees and the roadside chai more than the exotic green tea bags and ground coffee!
And that’s where we come in! Our box does not focus on the goodies but the book itself. We are dedicated to find you quality literature. We do have bookmarks, badges and t-shirt (t-shirt comes with the premium box), but they are peripheral things. At 499₹ for classic box and 699₹ for premium box, we are the most affordable box in India. We spend the most money on books, not the goodies.
And what gives you even a better deal is the fact that we just select a book for you, not the genre. We ask you for the genre preference and make sure that you get the latest, high quality literature is the same genre. This particular feature sets us apart from ALL the book boxes available in India currently.
In the age of smartphones, we get everything in a click of a button or the flip of the screen. We’ve slowed moved away from experiencing anticipation and surprise. You don’t need a reason to surprise yourself with something wonderful. So, go ahead and take the first step to gift yourself a surprise. We promise that we will make your decision count.
