The second morning after the robbery, Ari decided she needed some gardening therapy. The day before consisted of staying inside her apartment, keeping her phone off and watching movies with Thor.
Thor seemed to love movie time, especially when she fed him popcorn. In fact, Ari decided to have a Thor marathon, her cat’s namesake, in the form of Chris Hemsworth.
The sun’s rays spread warmth over Ari’s back, although it was early enough to have a bit of a chill in the air. Thor lazed in the grass a few feet away, eyes half mast, as his ears perked up at the squirrel in one of the trees chattering about. Ari loved the feel of the earth beneath her hands. Growing up her uncle had a huge garden and she helped his caretaker, Mrs. Beardsley, often. There was something therapeutic tending the soft, loamy soil. The grass hadn’t been cut recently, making the yard look a little wild, helping the weeds flourish.
Ari liked it when things weren’t so well groomed, which was surprising, considering she always liked things neat and tidy. Spade in one hand and weeds in another, she heard Thor give a warning growl. She looked up to find Kade approaching the garden.
