“Ari,” a familiar voice whispered into her ear.
Kade.
Goosebumps rose on her arms as the smell of woodsy cologne and musk assaulted her senses. She turned her head. Amber eyes glowed in the dark behind a black mask, as Kade’s hair hung loose to past his shoulders instead of his usual man bun. Viking braids and silver beads and adornments littered his hair. Auburn highlights glistened in the lights as she took in his appearance. Tribal tattoos covered his forehead and cheeks. It was awesome. He wore tight black pants with black biker boots. His shirt was a deep shimmering blue, almost silky, open at his neck, showing a bit of chest hair. God she loved his smell.
“You look like Viking ready to raid and plunder,” she said, her body suddenly fully aware of his nearness as she reached out her other hand and ran her fingers down one of his braids and let it fall.
“Hmmm…” he smiled a wicked smile at her, but then it fell from his face as he faced Alaric with a pleasant, if not guarded look. “Alaric, felicitations on such a festive night. Did you forget that for this night of Masquerade, there are no negotiations?”
“Yes, of course. But it seems there is some confusion. The lady says her companion is with her, but her companion says she does not belong…
