“Jesus, Jimmy, I told you not to get off the highway. We’ve been driving twenty minutes and haven’t even seen a car.”

“Yeah, yeah. Was supposed to be a shortcut around the roadwork.” He peered at the device mounted on the dashboard. “How was I supposed to know the fucking GPS was gonna drop? You getting anything?”

Anna looked down at her phone. “Nope, nothing.”

Jimmy was silent for a moment. “It’s fine, we’ll find a gas station, get directions there.”

She gestured to the front of the car, where the headlights lit up a narrow black path flanked by rows of trees leaning over the road.

“I hope so. We’re in the asscrack of nowhere. At least Marianne ain't gonna find you out here and rag you about child support.”

Jimmy shrugged. Nope, she definitely ain’t gonna find me. “Kid’s probably not mine anyway. Fucking slut.”

“She looks like you, though.”

Jimmy turned his head and shot Anna an evil glance. Shouldn’t have brought this dumb bitch.

“Fuck off. You can get out of the car right now if you want.”
