She writes because she needs to

Pen in hand, paper on lap
She curls up on the couch.
Blanket fetched, pyjamas on,
Cat purring at her side.

You see, for her, writing,
It is a coping strategy.
It is healthier than opening a vein.

But you see, for her, writing –
It is like opening a vein,
And bleeding her heart,
All over the page.
