Fieldnote #15: In which we begin Studio61’s Summer School of Design, Cultures and Organising

--

‘We have grown far from ourselves… And we have grown far from each other’ writes Kae Tempest in their essay ‘On Connection’.

Kae offers ‘creative connection’ as that which can heal us.

Kae believes that immersion in creativity stirs an ancient and curative commonality in us all.

For Kae, creativity reached through a fog of pain.

It offered them guidance, purpose and transformation.

It gave them the energy to pursue new ideas. To find community. To construct narratives that hold the world together.

And narratives that pull the world apart.

Following Kae, we have launched a Summer School.

We hope it is a way to resist the tendencies of our atomised lives.

We hope that it supports us to unlearn and learn new habits.

We hope that it cultivates co-operation and empathy.

We hope it instils a regular practice of connecting to someone else’s story.

We hope that it creates joyful and meaningful collisions.

We have set a table.

We have created a connected space.

We have curated themes, provocations and experiences.

But what matters is you.

You as your own creative protagonist.

The Summer School consists of a weekly lunchtime talk and a growing collection of ‘field trips’. Visit the Project Portal here
