Here’s what’s on the FF radar this week…

Living Archive

We’ve been revisiting Wayne McGregor Company and Google’s collaboration ‘Living Archive’…The project used machine learning to analyse McGregors 25+ years of choreography, watching every work and learning each and every phrase of movement – not just the choreography but also learning the attributes of individual dancers to create completely new compositions with AI. The original project from 2018 has been adapted for the stage where the real dancers are joined by wireframed AI counterparts. Create your own choreography with the archive here.

Tokyo 2020 Pictograms

Well they are just bloody lovely aren’t they. The first time we are seeing animated pictograms and let’s just be frank… there’s no going back to static now. See more here.

Circular economy x Apparel

A couple of circular economy stories surfaced over the last few week that caught our attention. Let’s stick with the Olympics theme for a moment… Japan’s paralympic and olympic teams will proudly wear an Asics kit made from recycled clothes.

Apparel and footwear production contribute to around 10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. The fashion industry also produces 20 percent of global wastewater, and 85 percent of textiles end up in landfills.

To address this problem, Japan’s 2020 Olympic and Paralympic teams will wear official sportswear made from donated, recycled textiles.

Space Hippie

The other story was seeing Nike start to put a little weight behind its circular design initiative (nikecirculardesign.com) releasing the Space Hippie.

Ami

Is it a bird, is it a plane? Nope. Apparently it’s not a car either. Ami is a new subscription-based electric ‘car’ which is actually classified as a quadricycle — meaning you don’t need a driving licence to get behind the wheel and you can drive one from the age of 14… And to think you thought the roads would be more scary with autonomous vehicles on them.

Make My Money Matter

Ever thought about what your pension is being invested in? Weapons and ammunition? Coal and oil?

Make My Money Matter is a public-driven campaign calling on the finance industry to make our money build a better world while it grows.

Great video here, really strikes the balance of being simple, informative and human at the same time.

Bitcoin mining

Natural gas plant mines 5.5 bitcoins a day with energy that could power 11,000 homes — Link.

Tidal

Google X’s latest moonshot has been revealed… “A moonshot to protect the ocean and feed humanity sustainably.”

See you next week.
