It’s been a really big fortnight! As of last Friday Project Centurion is now on-site and in production. Eek. Project Playway did really well in its London and New York client peer reviews which is ace… we essentially have a green light for the next phase of the project; time to get out of the world of ideas and pdfs and start making things happen, fun!

Our proposal for Project Evie got a green light too and it will kick-off after Centurion wraps up in March. We also picked up another tiny little project for the National Park City Foundation, this one is a little less secretive but let’s give it a nickname anyway… Project Hypha. Oh! we also planned the year's adventures with Intermission too. It is all go go go.

Last Monday I gave a talk to students from Kingston University. Zoë Bather invited me to talk to her Social Innovation Strand from BA Graphics and students from MA graphics came to hand out too. Thanks for having me.

‘Studio is an Attitude’ accelerator workshop with Kingston students late 2019

Which reminds me I don’t think we ever mentioned last years workshop with the Social Innovation Strand… It was back in the days when we could do stuff and have people over to the studio…

The day started with a talk and then swiftly followed by a challenge to take Fieldwork Facility’s ‘Studio is an Attitude’ ethos… all of the students where challenged to go and find a space in central London that would help them accelerate their project over the course of the day. At lunchtime they emailed in postcards to explain how it was going…

Later in the evening all the students came over to the studio for a crit. I invited some studio friends to join… big thanks to Akil Benjamin (Comuzi) Basil Safwat (Normally), Neef (UsTwo), Katy Needham and Dan Parry (Tectonic)… it was super fun. Looking forward to more IRL things in the near future. Aren’t we all?

The last fortnight in the studio we have been inspired by:

The first MAD Mondays talk… Mette Søberg, head chef of Noma’s test kitchen gave a talk on creativity. Lot’s more talks coming up, sign up to Mad’s newsletter.

Mr Eliasson… at it again.

This short thread about UK postcards… actually really interesting in terms of why they are memorable and PIN numbers aren’t. (click to read thread)

The insane world of Dirk Hoy

Slow news days…

This got thinking about what luxury really means… or what it could mean.

Phillip Lim and Charlotte McCurdy adorn couture dress with algae sequins to avoid “reaching for polyester”

Remember when technology and the internet felt all optimism and full of potential? … ok best not look at this then. Ok do, just for the sheer horror…

Ruth, your own branded AI chatbot to help you make the best cookie.

We started listening to The Happiness Lab (great so far thanks for the recommendation Luke / Us)… FYI it’s made by Pushkin Industries who also make the brilliant Broken Record podcast with Rick Rubin and Malcolm Gladwell.

Flowrite… kinda creepy but also potentially really useful for the old dyslexia.

The most revisited this link in my browser though has to be this. Sound on.

Have a good week!
