It’s currently 15:42 on Wednesday the 21st of June.

It’s hot out.

Hot by UK standards.

Not by world standards.

But still hot.

I guess you could be reading this from anywhere really. In LA, 32 degrees is probably a temperature where you go about your normal life and may grab a juice if you’re feeling the heat a little bit too much.

For the UK, however, these past few days have been a heatwave. The notifications on my phone have all been about how hot it is.

Friends sunbathing on snapchat.

My sister letting us all know she’s cooking herself at work.

My flatmate wishing he’d spent time putting on sun screen earlier in the day.

In fact today was the hottest day in June since 1976

That’s impressive considering it’s over a generation ago. But for us perhaps it’s a sign of what’s to come with climate change and global warming.

They’ve been buzz words for quite a while now, with scientists proving on numerous occasions that the world is in fact getting hotter. But for us on the ground the effects often aren’t noticeable, apart from when a weather presenter says it was unusually hot in a far northern corner of the country.

People often think “so what? lucky person X gets a slightly hotter day in mid march than he would normally”

This time it’s been 5 sizzling hot days above 30C.

So whilst the rest of the world has slowly been going about their business we’ve been enjoying the hot weather.

I imagine coffee shops without a decent selection of cold options have been worse off. (A simple iced coffee isn’t too hard to make after all).

For us it’s been a chance to sit outside soak up some much needed sun post a hectic year at University. But most importantly it’s provided a break from work. It’s incredible how refreshing purely taking a break can be.

Typing away on a laptop for an hour or two sending emails was hard. Given that we’ve got no ties of being at Uni and no real graduate job it’s time we can spend enjoying the sun.

No office without air con.

No suit that has to be worn to a meeting.

No coffee runs for a boss that isn’t too appreciative.

Despite the break, we’re determined to hit the ground running this summer.

Following on from an interview with James Hickey the volcanologist. We’ve got an interview with SimonOxPhys another scientist documenting his life onYoutube coming in under a week.

Finally a few more posts about place, think: London, Leamington, Devon.

And we’re planning on keeping a regular constant feature like today always being written. Sort of a daily blog. But not a daily blog about this. Just something new everyday to keep you interested.

We can’t wait to show you what we’ve got next.
