This week we’re bringing you an interview with Jon Trend. This comes after featuring a number of multitalented designers and creators and we wanted to showcase another great photographer for you.

Jon is a photographer who specialises in taking street and urban lifestyle photography. His photo journey begins with when he left music school and bought a camera to share his travels. He preaches how the journey should be the enjoyment and not aiming to “make it”. Working with some amazing brands such as Budweiser and Hypebeast his style is varied and is definitely something we wanted to delve into. All photos shown are his.

If you enjoy this interview, hit that heart button below ❤ Would mean a lot to us and it helps other people see the story.

How did you develop an interest in photography at the beginning?

It was random really. I was studying music at the time and when during my last year in school I bought a camera. I started driving around all over Portland taking pictures of anything and everything. I started sharing my images on Flickr and about 2 months after that instagram became a thing and the rest is history.

Where has been your favourite place to go take photos?

New York. I can get lost for hours shooting there. Its all so different and there will always be something to photograph.

How important is gear to you, we know people love it so what do you use?

Gear is gear. You can take a great picture with an iPhone or an SLR. I’ve been making some of my best photographs with a camera I got for $65 on eBay. I think photographers should always use gear below there means. It challenges you and you are no longer relying on gear to. make a great photograph.

We love some of your branded work on your portfolio, what tips do you have for people starting out in branded work?

Be yourself. As cliche as that sounds its real. Brands hire you for a reason so don’t try to go over the top when shooting. Just do your thing and make dope shit. You’ll have fun, they’ll love the photos and you will have created something that you and the brand are proud of.

Where’s next for jon?

I ask myself this everyday, but I am taking this journey day by day. I try not to set too many expectations for myself because when I set goals and don’t meet them I get discouraged. I’m just blessed that I get to wake up everyday and take pictures for a living. I couldn’t ask for anything more.

You can’t get much better from a New York shot!

Taking a look at Jon’s work and a little bit of insight into his photography is definitely inspiring us to go and take some street photos. Watch this space indeed!
