A Brief Note On Medium Metabar Color

I was customizing the Fierce Punch Studios publication homepage with the help of this tutorial by elizabeth tobey. The only thing I stumbled over was the top bar — called the “metabar” in Medium’s HTML. It remained frustratingly white, no matter how hard I clicked that color button.

Sites like The Hairpin and The Ringer set their metabars the same color as their navigation bars, so I could see that it’s plainly possible.

It turns out that Medium sets the metabar color to white any time you add a header image. If you added the image first — like me — you too may find yourself at a loss.

Ultimately, I decided on the color over the header image; enjoy the Minneapolis skyline here instead.
