support your local maker. man boobs — mine.

Today I launched a new business: Fiercely Made — it’s a platform to showcase local makers near where I live (that’s Brooklyn, NY for you internet types).

There’s a simple reason we started this business. Because there’s cool shit being made on your doorstep by awesome, passionate, talented makers.

Cool shit. You hear me?

Big shit like this:

Hand made coffee table by Reed Hansuld. link.
A selection of our furniture section. All handmade in Brooklyn, NY. link.

And small shit like this:

Etched pitcher and mug set — hand thrown by BTW Ceramics. link.
A selection of our kitchen-friendly products. All handmade in Brooklyn, NY. link.

But you’ve got to seek it out. It’s not easy. There’s no one-stop shopping. There’s no Amazon of local. You’re not buying a hand-made coffee table off Amazon anytime soon (and if you did likely the maker would be getting a raw deal.)

So you’ve got to do some work…

Getting something made by hand is HARD. Sheesh — we’re not talking one click checkout here. How big do you want it? What color? What wood? How will you install it? As the consumer you have to agree to do a little work here. Roll up your sleeves and actually invest a little time and effort. C’mon — I promise it’s worth it.

You see the magical thing about supporting your local maker is that the rewards are far greater. Ah the rewards. Meet the maker in person, look them in the eye, shake their hand, hear them speak enthusiastically about WHY they even make things to begin with. Ah the magic of hearing an engaged person telling you how they’re living their dream.

Don’t you want to come in and meet them while they’re making something for you by hand?

Ok, so maybe the blowtorch puts you off. How about this?

So why Fiercely Made?

We’re on a mission to make it easier to engage with your local maker. To support your local maker. To own something with meaning. To buy something you cherish.

So take a look around the site, read about these amazing magical human beings and their meticulous craft. Stay awhile. Drop us a line or come for a studio visit. And spread the word.

(Oh — and by the way, if you’re in Brooklyn you should totally come to our launch event next week. 3500sq ft in Gowanus, Brooklyn! Yeah! RSVP here.)

Thank you.
