Almost all of us love snacks. Chef Cristian Feher, from Tampa Bay Chef Services, shares three mouth-watering recipes, proving that a bag of Doritos or Cheetos is much more than a snack. These snacks can be transformed into delicious meals, providing unique flavour and texture.

Potato Chips Frittata

For this recipe, the traditional fresh potatoes that are used are replaced by a bag of potato chips. This touch adds an unusual taste and texture to the frittata. This recipe yields 4 servings.

Ingredients

8 eggs
1 large bag of regular potato chips
1 onion, diced
Salt and pepper to taste
Sour Cream
Fresh, chopped parsley
Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Start by frying the onions in the skillet until they are soft and translucent. This should take about 15 minutes.
  2. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
  3. Beat the eggs in a bowl, adding a pinch of salt and pepper.
  4. Hand-crush the potato chips.
  5. Remove the skillet from the stove, add the beaten eggs and stir. Next, add half the potato chip crumbs, mixing well. Last, sprinkle the rest of the potato chip crumbs on top.
  6. Bake in oven for about 15 to 20 minutes until eggs are cooked.
  7. Before serving, sprinkle some fresh chopped parsley. The frittata may be served with or without sour cream.

Cheetos and Doritos Chicken Fingers

In this recipe, Chef Cristian Feher ingeniously transforms the snacks into crumbs to coat chicken strips before baking. This recipe yields 8 to 12 chicken fingers.

Ingredients

2 large chicken breasts
1 large sized bag of Cheetos
1 large sized bag of Doritos
4 eggs
3 cups of flour
Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Separately, transform the Cheetos and Doritos into crumbs in a food processor.
  2. In separate bowls, set up flour, egg, Dorito crumbs, and Cheetos crumbs.
  3. Slice the chicken breasts into fine strips.
  4. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.
  5. Start by dipping each piece of chicken into the flour, then into the egg. Next, dredge it in either the Doritos crumbs or the Cheetos crumbs. Place all the coated strips on a non-stick sheet pan.
  6. Use a little olive oil to drizzle the chicken strips and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. You may pair the strips with your favorite dip.

Cheesy Doritos Tortilla Soup

In this recipe, the Doritos chips are completely transformed into a delicious soup that nevertheless offers the cheesy flavor of Doritos. This recipe yields 3 to 4 servings.

Ingredients

1 large bag of Doritos
15oz jar of your favorite salsa
32oz of beef stock
1 small can of black beans, drained and rinsed
Sour Cream
Scallions and/or cilantro for garnish

Optional

Cooked pieces of chicken
Diced avocado
Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. In a soup pot, mix the beef stock together with the salsa. Bring to a simmer.
  2. Crush the Doritos by hand to make them into crumbs.
  3. Toss half of the crushed Doritos into the soup and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  4. Use a hand blender to puree the soup until smooth. Return the soup to the stove and let it simmer again.
  5. Add the remaining crushed Doritos and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. You may serve with some sour cream, and chopped cilantro or scallions. Squeezed lime juice pairs perfectly with this soup.
