The Long Night has finally come, and Game of Thrones — GOT — season 7 has bowed out in the show’s usual spectacular fashion. With the stage set for an upcoming battle over Westeros and Jon’s true parentage being revealed, the long wait for season 8 is underway. But while the wait until the next season might be long, nobody said that you should forget all about it. Here are three Tyrion-approved cocktails that you can use to spice up your parties this holiday season.

Milk of the Poppy

Here is an easy potion to brew for your guests if you want to serve them a delicious coffee-flavoured beverage garnished with the obvious poppy seeds.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce coffee-flavored liqueur
  • 1 ounce heavy cream
  • Poppy seeds, for garnish

Preparation:

Simply fill a large cocktail shaker with ice and add the vodka, the liqueur, and the heavy cream. Shake the mixture well until the shaker feels as if it has a thick liquid inside. Strain it out into a bowled glass and garnish sparingly with the poppy seeds. Serve chilled, and your guests will be enthralled for sure.

Cersei’s mulled wine

Everything is better with wine in the belly, according to Tyrion. And with Westeros being such a cold, bleak land, a delicious mulled wine would not be out of place this season. With winter on its way, your guests could hardly receive a better token of hospitality.

Ingredients:

  • One 750-ml bottle red wine (anything dry and not sweet will do)
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup

Preparation:

Pour the wine into a medium-sized saucepan, and heat on medium. Using a lemon zester, peel the skin off one of the oranges, leaving plenty of the white pith on the orange. Add to the wine in the pan.

Cut the orange in half and squeeze out the juice into the wine, then drop in the squeezed orange along with the cinnamon, the apple cider, and the honey. Stir it well and keeping it simmering over a low to medium heat for 45 to 60 minutes until the mixture has been infused with all the different flavors. Do not let it boil.

Carefully strain out the peel, the orange, and the cinnamon and divide the liquid among several warmed mugs. Add slices from the remaining orange as garnish.

Tyrion’s mead

The oldest alcoholic beverage in the world is back in fashion thanks to the heavy drinking trends in GOT. And while it may not be the easiest thing to make for your party, with a little inventiveness and some expertise in potions, you can create a concoction that tastes just the same.

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle hard cider
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • Apple cider, for topping

Preparation:

Place several beer glasses into the freezer to chill. Once they are icy, take them out and fill them up to 3/4 with the hard cider. Drop in a double shot of bourbon, and top up with apple cider for a heartwarming taste.
